A Brief overview of HS Codes – PCT headings
HS (Harmonized System) Codes classify products, commodities and services. It is a standardized system which keeps international trade smooth. It tracks shipment easily.
World Customs Organization (WCO) develops, maintains and updates these codes. WCO codes are six digits which remain the same in more than 200 countries.
In Pakistan, Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) adopted HS codes as PCT Headings under the Section 18(1) of the Customs Act, 1969 (the Act). The Act authorizes FBR to change, nullify, replace or add any new code.
Here in Pakistan, code becomes eight digits. There are total 21 sections and 99 chapters of HS codes in our country. For more detail on this topic, you can visit our dedicated page on it.
