Does deduction of tax from salary automatically make me a filer?

No. Tax deducted by your employer under section 149 does not automatically make you a filer. You must file your income tax return to obtain ATL status.

Is income tax return filing mandatory for salaried employees?

It depends on your income level and filing obligations under the Income Tax Ordinance 2001. Even where the entire tax has been deducted from salary, filing may still be necessary to remain compliant and maintain ATL status.

What are the benefits of becoming a filer for salaried persons?

Filers generally enjoy lower withholding tax rates on property transactions, vehicle registration, banking transactions, foreign remittances, investments, and other documented economic activities.

What documents are required for filing a salaried person's tax return?

Usually, you need your CNIC, salary certificate, annual tax deduction details, bank account information, and details of assets, liabilities, investments, and expenses disclosed in the wealth statement.

Do salaried persons need to submit a wealth statement?

Yes. Where applicable under section 116, a salaried taxpayer must submit a wealth statement showing assets, liabilities, expenses, and sources of income.

Can a salaried employee claim tax credits?

You can verify your status through the FBR ATL database on IRIS portal using your CNIC or NTN. The ATL is maintained under section 181A.

What happens if a salaried person does not file a tax return?

A non-filer may face higher withholding taxes and may be affected by restrictions linked to economic transactions and compliance requirements under tax laws.
